How to Link Your Car Insurance With Aadhaar Number?

You must be aware that linking the Aadhaar card number with your car insurance policy is made mandatory by the government. Although the earlier deadline for Aadhaar linkage was 31st December 2017, the government has now extended the timeline to link the Aadhaar details with financial services to 31st of March 2018. This move has been undertaken with a view to create a unified platform for all the financial services and encourage the digitisation initiative.

So, insurance policyholders must understand the need to link their Aadhaar card numbers with their car insurance policy, as not doing the same may lead to problems during the claim settlement process.

Your car insurance policy can be linked to Aadhaar both online and offline. Most of the insurance companies have started offering online Aadhaar linking, but you can also do it offline by visiting their branch.

Understand the documents needed

For linking your Aadhaar you must have your vehicle insurance policy number, Aadhaar card number and PAN available. In case your Aadhaar number is not available then you are required to provide proof of application of Aadhaar enrolment. In addition, you need to provide your PAN details for the KYC requirement.

Conclusion:

The linking of Aadhaar number to your car insurance policy is as important as buying a policy itself. Although motor insurance is mandatory in India, having a comprehensive car insurance policy should also be considered. Looking at the number of benefits it offers and the easy availability online, you must immediately act upon it and buy car insurance online. With the kind of traffic we have, you will hardly find a day not hearing about vehicles banging into each other causing major damages.

You may be confident about your driving skills and tend to avoid buying a comprehensive motor insurance cover as it always pinches to pay the premium, especially when you do not have to make any insurance claim. But you will realise the value of comprehensive car insurance when you need to make an insurance claim yourself. No matter how good or safe driver you may be, you are always exposed to the risk of getting hurt by somebody else’s negligence. Comprehensive car insurance will benefit you as it takes care of your own damage as well as the third-party damage.

If you are first time buying a car insurance policy, you will need to give details of your Aadhaar number at the time of buying the policy. Those who have already bought the policy, get it linked with your Aadhaar number before 31st March 2018.
