As the OBC and other categories members in Madhya Pradesh have announced for a Bharat bandh in protest against the Parliament passing an amendment to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act that reversed a Supreme Court order to modify it.
The supreme court has rejected March 20 judgment because of which many misuse of provisions has come across from the act of SC / ST act 1989.
As per new government act, the Narendra Modi government brought an Amendment Bill in the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill 2018 was passed by Parliament replacing the original provisions of the bill, canceling the Supreme Court decision of March 20.
The amendment led to a fresh round of criticism, this time by upper caste groups. As the government completely overlooking the concerns of upper-caste people who claim to live in fear of being harassed using the provisions of the SC/ST Act. Due to this upper caste groups, which called for Bharat Bandh today.
Due to Bharat Bandha, many of the cities and various parts of many North-India states are suffering which include Bhopal, Lucknow, Ajmer, Gwalior, and many parts of Rajasthan, Bihar and Maharashtra. Schools, colleges, shops, offices, petrol pumps have been shut down, transport and markets are being affected and the whole lifestyle of those areas is being disturbed.
All these protests due to various Acts and amendments in the acts are majorly becoming the reason for intolerance and sufferings of people ultimately leading huge loss of peace, harmony, education, development which somehow is affecting Indian Economy in very negative way.
