An insightful interview with Mr Zaheer Adenwala - Co-Founder of Ketto Online Ventures

You might have heard of many crowdfunding websites raising money for important issues, Samachar Live came across one of the most happening, popular and hardworking crowdfunding websites KETTO ONLINE VENTURES. As Mr Zaheer said Ketto stands for ‘Key to Tomorrow’,

Let’s take a look at what he has to say about crowdfunding, its popularity and much more!

  • Tell us more about your company Ketto Online Ventures?

Ketto.org is South East Asia’s largest online crowdfunding platform which fuels a wide variety of sustainable causes, right from fundraising for education to fundraising for medical purposes. Ketto is co-founded by Me, Varun Sheth, and Actor Kunal Kapoor with an aim to bridge the affordability gap. The company enables people to raise funds for health and medical emergencies, natural calamities, education, travel, short-term emergency needs, sports, competitions, arts, animal welfare, women empowerment, and many more. Ketto’s primary objective is to use technology to optimize efficiency, reduce redundancy, and increase impact targeting the social sector of the country. The company is closely working with hospitals, NGOs, and individuals to bring positive change to the community. Currently, Ketto campaigns are raising over Rs. 300 crores per year for various causes.

  • Why did you choose to start this (specific) business? How did you get your idea or concept for this unique business?

We founded Ketto with an aim to bridge the gap in terms of how money could be raised by individuals and nonprofits, especially when it comes to small amounts.

Ketto’s co-founders, Varun, and Kunal had closely worked in the social impact sector. During their stint with NGOs, they got a deep understanding of the functioning of NGOs as well as the structural and operational challenges they face on a day-to-day basis. Soon we realized that technology and the transparency gap between the donor and the recipient were the major roadblocks in the funding process. With an aim to address that gap, we launched Ketto, short for ‘Key to Tomorrow’, on August 15, 2012, and the platform has since become a carrier of change for many. Technology, trust and transparency are the keys to Ketto’s success story.

  • After all this success, what do you struggle with now?

We have successfully built our presence in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore. We see great potential in tier 2 and 3 cities, however, there is a need to spread awareness about the concept of crowdfunding for the causes related to medical, social, and education. We are planning to host an awareness campaign in the hospitals and educational intuitions with an aim to educate the masses on cause-based crowdfunding. Alternately we are also strengthening our reach with local NGOs operating in these regions.

  • Your organization is doing a noble and great job in helping the people in need, how have the people and society appreciated your social cause? Have you got support from them?

We are overwhelmed by the love and support we have been getting from people across the globe. We strongly believe that Ketto donors are the changemakers of society, who want to bring positive change to the community.

Ketto thrives on building technology, trust, and transparency. We follow a stringent fundraiser verification process, all the campaigns on the platform are authenticated through verified legal identification and medical documents. Every campaigner is required to upload their original medical reports provided by the hospital with detailed information and the estimated cost of treatment. This is the most guaranteed way to establish the credibility of the campaigns.  The donors are regularly updated and informed of the status of the campaigns and funds remitted to the hospital. This ensures transparency at all levels and also helps in increasing donor confidence. The number of donors returning back to the Ketto platform has increased to 70% as compared to 30% in the previous year. At Ketto, donor trust and satisfaction are our utmost priority.

  • What in your opinion will be your biggest achievement?

If I have to think of recent incidents, then it will be Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s fundraiser. The power couple hosted a covid relief fundraiser on our platform and we managed to raise over INR 11 crore in just 10 days. It is definitely a first in Ketto fundraiser history.

  • Who is your role model and why?

I admire the work of Steve Jobs; he is my true inspiration. The way he overcame adversity every time in his life, his passion, and how he followed it wholeheartedly. His inventions transformed technology and communication. And I love his quote: STAY HUNGRY. STAY FOOLISH.

  • If you had one piece of advice to someone who is just starting his or her business, what would it be?

Keep challenging yourself and keep innovating. Never stop learning.
